HC Instructs to stop all kinds of harmful online games

The High Court has directed to remove all such harmful online-based apps from online platforms including TikTok, Bigo Live, PUBG, Free Fire Games and Likee and to block the links immediately. At the same time, the court has issued a rule asking why all types of online games and apps like TickTock, Bigo Live, PUBG, Free Fire Games and Likee will not be ordered to be stopped from all online platforms. The order was passed by a virtual bench of the High Court comprising Justice Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Kamrul Hossain Mollah on Monday (August 16). Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab appeared for the writ petition in court on the same day. For the State, Barrister Nowroz, Md. Russell Chowdhury and Assistant Attorney General Golam Sarwar Payal heard. On the other hand, Barrister Khandaker Reza-e-Rakib appeared for BTRC. Earlier on June 24, two Supreme Court lawyers, Barrister Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallab and Mohammad Kausar filed a writ petition in the public interest on behalf of the Law and Life Foundation, a human rights organization, in the relevant branch of the High Court. In the writ petition, the postal and telecommunications secretary, BTRC chairman, education secretary, home secretary, law ministry secretary, health secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), Bangladesh Bank, mobile operator, bKash and Nagad were named as defendants. Earlier, on June 19, a legal notice was sent seeking redressal. A writ petition was filed in the High Court for not taking action to stop them within 48 hours of the notice. However, no action has been taken in this regard.
